Don’t Cower Into Silence, Offer Counsel to Govt Appointees- Asantehene to ARCC

The occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has condemned the action of Regional Coordinating Council staff cowering into silence at the intimidation of political appointees.

The Asantehene recognizes that these staff resign themselves to the dictates of political appointees, reserving their objections to policies and undertakings to the detriment of the Region.

During a courtesy call by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) led by the Chief Director, Mr Michael Owusu Amoako to the Manhyia Palace on January 17, 2025, the King observed these actions are sponsored by the fear of losing their jobs or being transferred.

As justifiable as their silence could be, he noted that it was wrong and must be ceased.

Otumfuo encouraged them to offer counsel and constructive criticisms to the Ministers for the collective good of the Region.

“Yours isn’t to challenge but to recommend and propose to the Minister to review and make the utmost decision for collective good.”

According to His Majesty, any member of the Council who would cower into silence for fear of losing their jobs “is not fit for the purpose” for which they have been assigned the role.

He is of the firm view that the RCC holds the crucial key to the development of any region. As such, he emphasized that they must be held accountable for state of the Region and not the Regional Minister.

“The Regional Minister is just a political appointee with limited tenure but you don’t. It’s the Minister we know, meanwhile you are the main force and so if anything goes wrong, I have to hold you responsible.”

The ARCC was at the Palace to introduce Mr Owusu Amoako as its new Coordinating Director. He took the role after Mrs Emelia Ayebeng Botchway passed on last year.

He was accompanied by a delegation from the Council which included the Chief Accountant and the Internal Auditor.

Mr Owusu Amoako holds BA Hons Law and Sociology from the KNUST, Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration and Postgraduate Certificate from GIMPA, MBA in General from the University of Wales in UK, LLB from Mount Crest University College, LLM from the University of Ghana and Professional Law Course Part Two from the Ghana School of Law.

He previously worked as Coordinating Director at the Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council, Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, Kwahu West Municipal, Ahafo Ano South, Sekyere East, Asante Akyem South, Kpone Katamanso, Tema Metro, Central Regional Coordinating Council and others.
