Dompoasehene Shooter Says It Was an Accident not Contract Killing

The suspect behind the shooting incident involving Nana Okofo Kwabena Bonsu, Adansi Dompoasehene, has denied reports that he was contracted to assassinate the traditional ruler.

In a media engagement, Nana Yaw Dankwa, aged 30 years, said the incident was an accident.

According to him, he is a member of an Asafo group and was to fire the gun as part of activities to make the event lively.

“It was an accident. I am a member of the Asafo group in Anyan Abaasa. The gunshot was part of the ceremony, but it was miscalculated, leading to the accident. It’s not true that I was contracted to kill him. I would never do such a thing in a crowd.”

Meanwhile, he extended an unqualified apology to the traditional ruler, the Inspector-General of Police and the general public for his actions.

The Dompoasehene is reported to have sustained injuries from a stray bullet at a funeral at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

The traditional leader received medical attention and was discharged on the same day.

The suspect was arrested over the weekend.
