Defence Minister Withdraws Military Protection For Unqualified Civilians

The Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has announced the withdrawal of military escort for unqualified civilians.

This affects public officials, former ministers as well as businessmen, and women.

He explained that the decision is meant to sanitise the system and put a stop to the misuse of military personnel for personal gain.

“Therefore, military personnel found providing unauthorized guard duties; and any other unauthorized duties will face far-reaching consequences.”

“Let’s work together to promote a more disciplined and responsible use of our military resources. We’re committed to transparency and accountability. Let’s build a more responsible and just society together!”

It comes after it was reported last week that the military security detail stationed at the private Labone residence of Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, has been withdrawn, leaving the compound quiet and deserted.
