Daniel Laryea to Officiate CAF Confederation Cup Game at Soccer City Stadium

Daniel Laryea, a Ghanaian referee, will preside a Group D match between Al Masry of Egypt and Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa at the Soccer City Stadium.
The Ghanaian official was active in his duties during the just concluded African Cup of Nations (AFCON). He worked as a video assistant referee at the Al Medina Stadium for a match between South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions.
Daniel became a household name during the AFCON competition after officiating a semi-final game at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where the Super Eagles of Nigeria fell to the Atlas Lions of Morocco.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) continues to trust the veteran referee, cementing his position as one of Africa’s finest match officials.
Laryea has also been honoured at home beyond his continental duties, he was recently honoured at the Ghana Football Association Secretariat after being presented with his FIFA referee badge, marking his status as one of Ghana’s best officials permitted to handle international assignments.
The South African outfit, Kaizer Chiefs, will be playing their third home game of the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup. They played a 1:1 draw with Zamalek, and they won by 1:0 against ZESCO United.
Al Masry, an Egyptian team, would be playing their third away game of the season. At the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria, they drew with fellow Egyptian side Zamalek and defeated Zambian opposition, ZESCO United by 3:2.
Daniel Laryea will face a difficult assignment on February 8, 2026, citing an occurrence in which both clubs share the same number of points, settling for second and third place in Group D.
Laryea’s nomination for the Kaizer Chiefs-Al Masry match demonstrates Ghana’s strong presence in African football officiating.
