Dampare In Kumasi Over Tragic Fire At Police Residence
The Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare is in the Ashanti region following the death of an officer and his family in a fire that gutted a police residence at Apromase in the Ejisu municipality.
Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, his wife and his baby died in a fire that ravaged the two-storey building rented as a residence for police officers and their families.
Others officers sustained minor injuries, reports indicate, however, they have been treated and discharged.
The remains of the deceased family were found and deposited at the morgue after fire officers brought the fire under control.
The IGP and other senior officers flew to the Ashanti region on Monday following the incident which has traumatised some of the officers.
The Senior officers met the Ashanti Regional Fire Commander and the Regional Police Commander, toured the scene of the incident and then met the victims upon arrival in the region.
Psychosocial support will be provided for the victims by the service’s clinical psychologist, it has been gathered.
The IGP noted that a befitting burial will be held for the deceased officer.
He is scheduled to meet the family of the deceased.
