Daddy Lumba’s Funeral Scheduled for Tomorrow Suspended by Court

The planned funeral of legendary musician Daddy Lumba, set for Saturday, December 13, 2025, has been put on hold by the High Court in Accra.

Kwame Owusu, the Abusuapanyin or head of the family, has been directed to call a meeting within three days, ensuring that all family members are included in the funeral planning process.

The court’s intervention followed a petition from some maternal relatives, including his sister Ernestina Brempomaa and uncle Yaw Opoku, who argued they were left out of preparations.

In addition, the funeral home holding Daddy Lumba’s body has been instructed not to release it until the dispute is resolved.

While acknowledging the traditional role of the family head in overseeing funeral arrangements, the court stressed that such authority must respect the involvement of immediate family members.

Affidavits presented by the applicants highlighted their exclusion, prompting the judge to underscore the importance of family rights and customary protocols in all decisions.

The ruling requires Kwame Owusu to facilitate a comprehensive discussion with all stakeholders to determine a new funeral date and ensure inclusive participation.

Following the decision, activity at Heroes Park in Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, where the funeral was to take place, has been halted.
