Curfew on Walewale Reviewed

The government has reviewed the imposed curfew on Walewale in the North East Region, the Ministry of Interior has announced.

The town will now be under curfew from 8 pm to 5 am.

The review by the sector Minister, Hon Muntaka Mubarak, follows advice from the Regional Security Council.

The review took effect on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

“Government calls on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and People of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace,” the Minister urged.

Meanwhile, it noted that there is a total ban on all persons in the affected communities and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapon. Anyone found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.

On February 15, the Minister by Executive Instrument imposed a 12-hour curfew on Walewale.

This was in response to a series of attacks on vehicles and alleged military brutalities on residents in the town, Graphic reported.
