Crystal Palace Head Coach steps Aside

The head coach of English Premier League side Crystal Palace, Roy Hodgson, has resigned from the role of head coach after his discharge from a hospital.

The gaffer collapsed last Thursday during training and got admitted to a hospital but is said to “doing well” at the moment.

His resignation was confirmed in a statement by the club on February 19, 2024 ahead of their match against Everton at Goodison Park today.

The team will tonight be led by Paddy McCarthy and Ray Lewington.

“Crystal Palace Football Club can confirm that Roy Hodgson has stepped down from his post as first-team manager,” the club said.

Roy asserts that his current health condition has informed his decision to step aside.

“I understand, given recent circumstances, it may be prudent at this time for the club to plan ahead, and therefore I have taken the decision to step aside so that the club can bring forward their plans for a new manager, as intended for this summer.”

The 76-year-old superintended over 200 games across six seasons at Palace.

He was first appointed in 1965 and got sacked in 1966 only for him to be reappointed in 2017. He got his second appointment termination in 2021 before his was appointed again in 2023.

Under his management this season, Roy can boast of six wins with 12 losses.

Palace currently sit in the 16th position on the league table- two places above relegation- with 24 points.

They have scored 27 goals and conceded a whopping 43 goals in the ongoing league.

Roy is however confident that the season will end favourably for the club.

“I am confident that the season will finish well and I wish the team every success in the weeks, months and seasons to come.”
