Controller and Accountant-General Denies Deleting Arrears Owed Nurses, Teachers

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has denied deleting arrears owed to nurses and teachers, calling the allegations false, baseless and entirely fabricated.
In a statement, it noted that it does not hold any legal mandate or administrative authority to delete or unilaterally cancel salary arrears owed to public servants.
“Any suggestion to the contrary is misleading and constitutes a serious misrepresentation of the Department’s functions.”
It, therefore, cautioned against the circulation of unverified and inaccurate claims that could cause unnecessary anxiety among public sector workers.
Meanwhile, it urged media houses and content platforms to exercise due diligence, verify claims with the appropriate authorities, and refrain from amplifying misinformation and disinformation.
“The CAGD remains committed to transparency, accountability and the lawful discharge of its mandate.”
