Asanteman Council Unveils Nana Samgba Gyafla II As Sampa Chief
The Asanteman Council has written to the Bono Regional Minister, Justina Awo Owusu–Banahen, introducing Nana Samgba Gyafla II as the legitimate paramount chief of Sampa Traditional Area.
The letter scripted by the Secretary of the Asanteman Council, Kwame Adusei Agyeman is copied to stakeholders including the National Security Minister, the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the Minister for Interior, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the National Intelligence Bureau, the Chairman of Bono Regional Security Council and others regional and district stakeholders.
In the letter, the Council indicated that Nana Samgba Gyafla II has complied with Article 277 of the 1992 Constitution and section 57 of the Chieftaincy Act 759 which state that “A chief is one hailing from the appropriate lineage or family, has been validly nominated, elected or selected and enstooled, enskinned or installed as a chief in accordance with the relevant customary law and usage.”
“I am directed to introduce to you the newly installed Paramount Chief of Sampa Traditional Area, Nana Samgba Gyafla II. Nana Samgba Gyafla II known in private life as Justice Emmanuel Ankamah on Monday 18th December, 2023 swore the Oath of allegiance to His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene in accordance with Asante customs, practices and usage before the Asanteman Council.”
“It is imperative that Sampa Traditional Area is part of the Asanteman Council and thus bounded by the latter’s traditions and customs. Therefore, any person not having sworn his oath of allegiance before the Asantehene and the Asanteman Council in respect of a Paramount Stool part of Asanteman cannot be properly so-called a chief,” parts of the letter read.
The Council, therefore, urged her to collaborate, cooperate and/or assist in whatever endeavour he may require.
It comes after an individual parading himself as the Sampa chief wrote to the National House of Chiefs seeking validation of his status for his name to be entered into the National Register of Chiefs.
This move also necessitated a prompt to the House in December 2023 by Nana Samgba Gyafla II through his lawyers.
In the letter, he described the individual as fraudulent and urged the House to disregard the application.
