KNUST Day Of Giving: ₵ 546k Raised So far

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has raised half a million cedis 16 hours since its online fundraising portal was opened on Friday, October ,6, 2023, for the maiden edition of the KNUST Day of Giving.

The portal which also enables monitoring of inflow of donations as of 16:00 GMT showed 1,071 people had made donations to raise GHC546,000.

It showed 82,000 of the donor are alumi, having their names and amounts displayed.

24-hour donation portal has been targeted to raise GHS 200 million towards the construction of a 2000-bed capacity Hall of Residence facility for student accommodation on campus.

“The KNUST Day of Giving is a 24-hour global online fundraising initiative, scheduled for Friday, 6th October, 2023. It is a day set aside by KNUST for her alumni, friends and stakeholders such as staff, students, parents, neighbours and business partners to show appreciation to the University,” the Vice Chancellor of the University, Rita Akosua Dickson said.

The initiative was launched by the Chancellor, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during the climax of the University’s year-long 70th Anniversary celebration at the Great hall on March 17, 2023.

Launching the project, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II noted that the charity programme was to enable the institution further its numerous initiatives as proceeds generated will be invested in “furtherance of the mandate entrusted to KNUST”.

“On the 6th of October every year beginning this year, the University is instituting a project dubbed KNUST Day Of Giving. It is a day set aside for alumni, KNUST students, Corporate bodies, friends and all well-wishers of the University to give back to the University”, he said.
