Committee Probing CJ Removal Petitions Begins Hearing

The Committee established to probe three petitions against the suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, will begin sittings today, May 15, 2025, the Jubilee House has announced.

The five-member Committee is chaired by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang of the Supreme Court.

According to the Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Committee will meet three times a week to thoroughly examine the evidence presented in the petitions.

“The President has taken this matter very seriously, ensuring that due process is followed meticulously,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated, adding: “The establishment of this committee reflects the government’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the judiciary and ensuring fairness and transparency in the administration of justice.”

Upon completing its investigations, the Committee will submit its recommendations to the President for further action.

The committee was formed by the President in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution, following consultations with the Council of State.

The decision was taken after a prima facie case was determined against the Chief Justice.
