COCOBOD Says Payment of Cocoa Farmers is Ongoing

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced the commencement of payments to cocoa farmers through Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs).
According to the Head of Corporate Communications, Jerome Kwaku Sam, the government commenced payment in November with over GH¢6 billion being paid.
This was followed by more than GH¢5 billion and GH¢6 billion in December 2025 and January 2026, respectively.
“This month alone, we have paid over GH¢620 million, and we are continuing to pay the LBCs so they can clear outstanding payments to farmers,” he said in an interview with CNR.
The COCOBOD refused entirely to shoulder the blame for the delay in payment, saying it was a combination of funding challenges, changes in financing arrangements, and the need to develop a more sustainable system.
Jerome disclosed that a new financing model is being fashioned out to avert the recurrence of the same situation.
