CLOGSAG Directs Births and Deaths Registry Staff to Embark On Strike

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has instructed staff of the Births and Deaths Registry to proceed with industrial action over an alleged hostility by the acting Registrar, Mr Samuel Adom Botchway.

It may be recalled that the appointment of Samuel was met with opposition by CLOGSAG as it held that the appointee was a political figure.

The opposition culminated in the declaration of strike but was subsequently suspended following the intervention of the Honourable Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment.

According to the group, Samuel has since resorted to posting and reassigning staff across the Civil Service and the Local Government service without authority; engaged in verbal of assault staff under him; and constantly creates an uncongenial atmosphere at the workplace.

In response to these alleged hostilities, the group held a meeting on June 12 and resolved to resort to strike effective Tuesday.

“Within this context, the National Executive Council (NEC) at its Emergency Meeting held on Thursday, 12th June 2025 decided that the staff of Births and Deaths should stay at home effect from Tuesday, 17th June 2025 until a safe and congenial working environment are guaranteed,” it said in a statement.
