CLOGSAG Declares Nationwide Strike over “Political Activist” Appointment to Birth and Death Registry

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared industrial action following Samuel Adom Botchway’s assumption of office as the Registrar of the Births & Deaths Registry.
In a press release dated February 13, Isaac Bampoe Addo, Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, directed all members to lay down their tools effective Thursday.
“The National Executive Council (NEC) decided that should Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway assume office as Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry, CLOGSAG should declare a nationwide strike.
“Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway took office on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The Association has no option but to call for a nationwide strike from Thursday, February 20, 2025.”
The group is opposing the appointment of Adom Botchway, citing his political affiliation to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
At a press conference a week ago, the group stated that his partisanship rendered him unqualified to assume the role as it emphasised its commitment to ensuring neutrality at the Civil and Local Government Services.
