Cholera Likely To Resurge In Central Gonja; Buipewura Fears
Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, the Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area, is concerned about the potential spread of cholera and other waterborne diseases in the region as a result of the Black Volta’s overflow.
The majority of the neighbourhood has experienced floods as a result of the construction, which has had an impact on how efficiently the Buipe Water Treatment Plant provides water to the area.
According to the chief, a malfunction in the water pumping system has forced the majority of the people to turn to untreated water sources. He made this statement on October 22, 2022, during his speech at the Buipewura Damba Festival (BUDAFEST).
“The river water now is not good for drinking but my people will be forced to drink it, and if they drink it the likelihood of cholera is high,” Buipewura Jinapor II said.
He has since called on the government and other international bodies to come to their aid.
