Chief of the Army Staff Wasn’t Attacked in Bawku- GAF

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has debunked reports that the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, was attacked in conflict-torn Bawku.

Following the visit of the head of the Army to the town a few days ago, videos of an alleged attack flooded social media.

In a statement issued on April 25, the GAF said the content of the said videos is fake.

“GAF wishes to state that the contents of the said videos are false and should be treated with the contempt that they deserve.”

According to the statement, the COAS’ operational visit to Bawku on April 23 was successful and devoid of negativity.

The Military has since gone after the originators of the videos in question to face the law as appropriate.

It used the occasion to caution bloggers, content creators and the media at large to be circumspect in their reportage on GAF operations especially in Bawku.

It noted that any deliberate misinformation and disinformation of the town have the potential to worsen the volatile security situation in the area.
