Chief Imam Fulfils Promise, Donates ¢50,000 To National Cathedral

The National Chief Imam, Shiekh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has donated GH¢50, 000 towards the construction of the National Cathedral.
Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu made good his promise on Thursday, August 26, 2021.
His spokesperson, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, said the act is to reinforce the cordial relationship between the two main religions in the country – Islam and Christianity.
“This is to indicate to the whole of the world that in Ghana Muslims and Christians are living at peace. That Imam donated ¢50,000 as a token contribution towards the construction of the National Cathedral”, he said.
He added that, “Practitioners of different faith are able to sit around the same table and have opportunity to discuss things, whatever comes by way of disagreement , we should be able to find a way to work and maintain our harmony. We should not do anything to disturb our relationship”, he said.
President, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, made clear his intentions to build a National Cathedral in the country in his 2016 manifesto.
The President in a speech said, “The cathedral will address the missing link in our nation’s architecture by providing a church of national purpose.
“It will be an interdenominational house of worship and prayer, as well as serve as the venue for formal state occasions of a religious nature, such as presidential inaugurations, state funerals, and national thanksgiving services.”
That design envisaged a cathedral containing a number of chapels, a baptistery, a music school, a choir rehearsal, a grand central hall and an auditorium with 5,000 seats. There would also be an art gallery and Africa’s first Bible museum.
David Adjaye, world class architect, is the architect in-charge of the Cathedral.
