ChaLoG: Terminate Contract Of Non-Performing Waste Companies
The Chamber of Local Government (ChaLoG) has called for immediate termination of the contract of non-performing private waste companies.
ChaLoG’s call comes as the government rolls out the operation clean your frontage exercise as part of efforts to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.
“Yes, the assemblies have gone into some public-private partnership with some private service providers, of course, we will not sit here and say that all of them are performing exceptionally well,” president of ChaLoG Dr. Richard Fiadomor said in an interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio.
“Some of them are just not living above board, some are also doing well, it is also incumbent on the assemblies to review the work that this Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) members are doing.”
He added, “If they are performing well, they go on with the contract, if they are not performing well the contract is abrogated so that we get things being done, the laws are there, why is the police there, they are there to enforce the law.”
Sustainable Funding
Dr. Richard Fiadomor, the president of the Chamber of Local Government has questioned the source of sustainability for the recruitment of a new task force to enforce sanitation bye-laws.
“Now we see the RCC coming up with a task force, the question I want ask the regional minister is where is he going to get money to pay the taskforce at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) level, he is not supposed to do that.”
“..If you RCC comes and you now form a task force, now is your task force going to oversee the task force at the assemblies, no so let’s get it clear, it is about discipline,” he said.
