Central Regional NDC Chairman Suspended
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended their Central Regional Chairman, Prof Richard Kofi Asiedu for defying orders of the General Secretary of the party and going ahead with his “baseless” suspension of a Parliamentary Candidate.
A letter addressed to him said the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party had resolved to suspend him for one month for his action deemed as anti-party.
Prof Asiedu last week released a letter suspending and withdrawing their 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Assin Central, Mr Nurein Shaibu for “immoral” and “anti-party” conduct citing consultations with the regional FEC.
However, his suspension letter issued by the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey said the purported withdrawal of the Assin Central Parliamentary Candidate is unlawful, as it noted that the purported withdrawal is “without any basis”.
It continued, “You played a lead role in the purported withdrawal of the Assin Central Parliamentary Candidate in clear violation of express directives given to you by the General Secretary and the National Chairman of the party.
“By publicly announcing your purported withdrawal of the Assin Central Parliamentary Candidate knowing very well that same was without any legal or reasonable justification, you have engaged in clear anti-party behaviour and brought the name of the party into disrepute.”
He has therefore been directed to hand over to his Vice, Hon. Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah and to desist from holding himself out as the party’s Central Regional Chairman.
