Celebrating the Pillar of Peace: Otumfuo is an Asset to Ghana- Bawumia

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has described Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as a national asset, forging cohesion and promoting peace and harmony among societies.

E On 3 Group’s today’s edition of the celebration of the Pillar of Peace- the 16th Monarch of the Asante Kingdom- takes into consideration the statement by the Vice President in 2021.

He made the statement during the launch of a Commemorative Gold Coin minted in recognition of Otumfuo’s outstanding peace works, particularly in the successful and amicable resolution of the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute.

He noted that the King had played a remarkable role in helping to shape democratic rule in the country, adding that his influential role in the sustenance of peace in Ghana, especially, under the Fourth Republic, would forever be remembered.

“Otumfuo Osei Tutu is a pillar of peace, and an asset, not only to Asanteman, but the entire nation,” Vice President Bawumia said in his speech at the event which was held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on December 12, 2021.

In February 2022 when a piece of the commemorative gold coin was presented to the Vice President at his office at the Jubilee House by a delegation from E ON 3 Group led by the Executive Chairman, Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Atta, Dr Bawumia recalled that when all hope was lost in the quest to settle the dispute, Otumfuo stepped forward and applied tact and diplomacy in restoring tranquillity to the troubled area.

“Leading the Committee of Eminent Chiefs to restore peace to Dagbon after 17 years of chieftaincy conflict is a monumental achievement for which Otumfuo Osei Tutu II deserved to be celebrated,” Vice President Bawumia stated.

He explained that the restoration of peace set Dagbon back on the path of progress.

Honours
In 2020, Otumfuo was decorated as a “Pillar of Peace” in the Africa Premier Leadership Awards (APLA) in recognition of his contribution to peace in his jurisdiction and beyond.

His imperial skills and peaceful negotiations, arbitrations and complete resolution to protracted disputes also earned him a commemorative gold coin which was minted in 2021.
