CAF Condemns AFCON Final Chaos as Unacceptable

The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has condemned as ‘unacceptable’ the chaos that marred the finals of the African Cup of Nations tournament in Rabat on Sunday night.

It singled out the behaviour of some players and officials during the game between Morocco and Senegal in a press statement.

“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour which occurs during matches, especially those targeting the refereeing team or match organisers.”

It added that it was reviewing all footage and would refer the matter to competent bodies for appropriate action to be taken against those found guilty.

The game witnessed controversy after Morocco was awarded a stoppage-time penalty, which was immediately rejected by Senegal’s players and officials.

They protested by walking off the pitch; however, they returned 14 minutes later after intervention by Sadio Mane.

This came after a Senegal goal was earlier disallowed.

The West Africans went ahead to win the game by 1-0, lifting the trophy for the second time after taking the first in 2021.
