C/R: Three Die In Road Accident At Okyereko

Three persons have died in an early morning crash on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway.

Several others are also injured and currently undergoing treatment at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital.

The crash between the Hyundai Grace mini van registered GR 5899-22 heading towards Kasoa and the VW sprinter mini bus also registered GW 5477-24 and heading towards Winneba led to the death of one person on the spot.

Two others passed on later at the hospital.

An eyewitness, Kweku Arthur told 3news.com that “driver of the sprinter bus made a wrongful overtaking and crashed into the other vehicle even though the driver of the other vehicle had spotted him and driven to the extreme shoulder of the road”.

He also mentioned that driver of the Hyundai Grace mini bus died on the spot.

Meanwhile, emergency responders are calling for the provision of adequate resources to ensure prompt support for accident victims.

Leader of the locally formed emergency response team, Ebo Anderson, believes delay in response time during accidents contributes to deaths and is making a case for the ambulance allocated to the area to be stationed at the Okyereko police station which is closer to the highway rather than being stationed at Gomoa Dominase.

“What we have come to realize is that the ambulance mostly delays when there’s an accident due to where it is stationed and can be considered as contributing to the death of some victims. It would be better if it was stationed at the Okyereko police station which is closer to the highway,” he said.

The Kasoa-Winneba highway especially the Potsin-Okyereko stretch remains one of the deadliest routes in the country.

Driver indiscipline actions such as wrongful overtaking and excess speeding have been identified as the main cause of most of the vehicular crashes.
