C.K.Akonnor’s Debt: Board officially pays him off

Asante Kotoko Board of Directors have finally settled current Black Stars Coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor’s debt.

The Board of Directors have had a lot of engagements with the 46-year-old coach after the formation of the Board by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, which have subsequently yielded good results.

The Player Status Committee of Ghana Football Association last year found Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko SC guilty following abrogation of the former gaffer’s contract unlawfully and was directed to pay an amount of Ghc366,000 as compensation.

However, through the influence and instrumental role played by Alhaji Lamini, Kotoko’s Board Member, the money was reduced to Ghs180,000.

The former Head Coach of Asante Kotoko had his contract terminated after guiding the Ghanaian Giants to win Tier One Cup, and reached the group stage of CAF Confederation Cup competition, a feat the club has struggled to achieve in a decade.

Akonnor before the litigation agreed with the erstwhile Management to pay him Ghc70, 000 but the agreement never materialized.

Confirming the latest development of the issue to Sasu Danquah of Opemsuo 104.7 FM Sports team, Alhaji Lamini said in affirmative that, “It is true that we have finally paid Akonnor! It was not difficult to deal with him since he already has the club at heart”

The former Black Stars captain signed a three-year contract on October 1, 2018, but lasted for only a year.
