Braimal Is Ignorant – Simon Osei Mensah
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, has stated that resignation is for persons who flout the law and not those who work within the confines of the law.
Reacting to the basis for which Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejura-Sekyeredumase, Mohammed Bawa Braimal, called for his dismissal, he said “it is quite unfortunate”.
According to him, it is cheap for an MP to take a piece of information from the media space and make suggestions.
He also said the Hon Braimal is ignorant looking at his submissions.
He noted that he is endowed with the requisite power and therefore did not err in sending the military to quell the ‘irate’ youth.
“Was he in parliament in 2020? Was he part of the Parliament that passed the Security Intelligence Act? Has he read Section 5, Section 6, Section 7 of the Securities Intelligence Agencies Act 2020, Act 10(30), for him to be saying all those things?
“If he had not been a Member of Parliament, I would have forgiven him but I’m sorry, he is being too ignorant. He should go and read the Act and come back”, the Ashanti Minister said.
He further added that “My removal will depend on the President. It is the prerogative of the President, whether he has lost confidence in me, whether I am not capable and he thinks a new person should come, that is the responsibility of the President.”
“In advance democracy, people resign when they err against the law and not when they act within the law”, he said.
Hon Mohammed Bawa Braimal, addressing the media in parliament said the Koomson Committee should have recommended the removal of the Ashanti Regional Minister in its recommendations.
Highlights of the recommendations by the Ejura Committee as reported by Citinews were that the Municipal Chief Executive for Ejura should be dismissed together with military man who was seen in the footage firing into the crowd.
