BoG Says It Hasn’t Banned Dollar Account Opening

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has trashed reports that it has banned the opening of dollar accounts in the country.

It was reported in a section of the media that the BoG had issued a directive to local banks to stop opening dollar accounts.

This, the “fake” news item noted, was to help in reviving the Ghana cedi.

But in a public notice, the Bank indicated that the news is false.

“Public Notice: Bank of Ghana has not issued any directive to local banks to stop the opening of new dollar accounts”, the Central Bank of Ghana tweeted.
