Boankra Inland Port Long Overdue- Otumfuo
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has decried the apparent disregard of the $330 million Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal (BILT) project , known as Boankra Inland Port in the Ashanti Region.
The project has been neglected by subsequent governments for more than 20 years.
Speaking about the project which was started by former President John Agyekum Kufuor but got abandoned when he left office, Otumfuo called on the Minister for Transport to maneuver to eliminate all obstacles impeding the success of the project.
According to him, the project is long overdue.
“The inland port has stalled for a long time. Do something about the hindrance to the project. We started talking about it in the days of President Kufuor. You are doing a good job at the Ministry. Make sure you get rid of all obstacles. Even if the IMF deal is responsible for it, use the same means to get the project completed.”
In 2020, President Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo-Addo cut sod for the commencement of the project which is expected to increase the movement of goods and services in the country and also facilitate transit trade between Ghana and the landlocked countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.
At the time, the project was projected to be completed in 2023.
The ultra-modern integrated logistics terminal consists of a Container Service Yard (CSY), Container Freight Station (CFS), Reefer, Warehouses, Truck Parking Area, Trucker’s Facilities, Fuel Station, Commercial Complex, Freight Forwarders Offices, and facilities for postal, telecommunication, utilities services, among others.
