Black Stars Visit KATH Today
The Black Stars of Ghana will make a visit to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region today, June 11, 2024.
Their visit is in relation to the Heal KATH project- a project to raise US$10 million to renovate the seven decades old facility which serves as a referral hospital for 12 out of the 16 regions in the country.
They will inspect the renovation works which are ongoing, a flyer shared by the Chairman of the Heal KATH Committee, Sammy Adu Boakye confirmed.
Their planned visit will take place at 11 am.
It comes after their back-to-back victory in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers this month.
They first thrashed Mali by 2-1 in Bamako on Thursday, June 6, 2024, and defeated the Central Africa Republic (CAR) on Monday, June 10, 2024.
Heal KATH
The Heal KATH project is a US10 million revenue mobilization drive being championed by the King of the Asante Kingdom in the quest to renovate the dilapidated structure of the second-largest hospital and the only tertiary health institution in the Ashanti Region.
The hospital, since its construction in 1954, has been deprived of any enhanced renovation, leaving it in a sorry state.
After 70 years of its existence with successive governments passing through the years, none made it a point to attend to it.
At the launch of the Heal KATH Project in November 2023, the Chief Executive officer of the hospital, Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah, disclosed the agenda to renovate the hospital had been on its radar for a long time but had to be shelved due to lack of funds.
Already, the renovation work is ongoing; however, there is a need for more funds as less than 40% of the US$10 million has been raised.
