Black Stars Technical Team Reviewed Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers
In response to Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament failure and in the lead-up to the Black Stars’ next 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a review in the technical team.
“After a thorough review of the performance of the Black Stars during last year’s qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Ghana Football Association has revamped the Technical team of the Stars,” it said in a statement.
Head Coach Otto Addo, Assistant Coach John Paintsill and Goalkeepers coach Fatawu Dauda were maintained.
Meanwhile, the FA announced the appointment of German Manager Winfried Anton Schafer as the GFA’s Technical Advisor and Director of Football.
The former United Arab Emirates head coach’s mandate, it said was to “work closely with Head Coach Otto Addo to build a winsome team” as the Technical Advisor.
Addo will also be assisted by male Under-20 coach and Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Coach of the Year 2024, Desmond Ofei.
According to the Association, he will augment the team with his expertise and deep analytical prowess.
Other appointments include Kris Perquy, as Psychologist, Gregory De Grauwe as Video Analyst as well as Issah Amadou (Asante Kotoko) and Abdul Rahman Alhassan as Equipment Officers.
The Black Stars will in March take on the next series of their World Cup qualifiers, will face Chad on March 19 and Madagascar on March 22.
Ghana hold nine points in second place in Group I. In their last games in June 2024, they defeated Mali in Bamako by 2-1 and the Central Africa Republic by 4-3 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
