Black Stars Are a Strong Contender- Angola Coach
The Head Coach of Angola Senior national team, Pedro Goncalves is not underrating the playing body of the Black Stars even at their lowest.
He characterised the team as a “strong” contender in an interview with GSP ahead of their match against the West Africans who are on the brink of not qualifying for the Nations Cup for the first time in 20 years.
“Ghana is undoubtedly a strong contender,” as he went through the quality of players making exploits in Europe and beyond.
The 48-year-old Portuguese however doubts Ghana will be able to qualify for the tournament.
“Their chances of qualifying are low at the moment. They not only have to win but also depend on Sudan, who need only one point from two games to qualify. It’s a very tough challenge for Ghana.”
He added, “For us, playing against Ghana is always special.
Pedro has led Angola to the top of Group F with 12 points from the past four games.
Meanwhile, Coach Otto Addo’s side hold two points from the four games and are in third place having suffered a 1-0 home defeat in their first game against Angola; a 1-1 home draw against Niger; a 0-0 draw against Sudan; and a 2-0 loss to Sudan.
