Black Starlets Drawn in Tough Group D for 2026 U-17 AFCON

The Black Starlets have been placed in Group D of the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations following the draw held in Cairo.

Ghana will face strong opposition in the group stage as they take on Senegal, South Africa and Algeria. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, while all quarter-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in Morocco from May 13 to June 2, 2026, with 16 teams divided into four groups of four.

The Black Starlets have been in residential camp for several weeks and have been playing a number of preparatory matches to sharpen their form ahead of the competition.

However, the team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Heart of Lions in a friendly last Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Despite the recent setback, head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum remains confident in his squad’s ability to get into top shape before the tournament.

Ghana will be aiming to progress from what looks like a very competitive group and secure a return to the FIFA U-17 World Cup for the first time since 2017.
