Black Princesses Thump Eswatini In Qualifier

In a turn of events at the Lobamba Somhlolo Stadium in Eswatini on Sunday, the Black Princesses humiliated their hosts in a 6-1 comeback in the 2024 U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.

After opening the scoreline five minutes into the game, the Princesses made sure to thwart subsequent efforts by Eswatini.

The visitors leveled the scoreline five minutes later through Mercy Attobra who would at the end of the game have a brace to her name. It was extended by Beline Nyarkoh in the 28th minute.

Four goals by Wasima Mohammed, Sarah Nyarko, Mercy Attobra and an own goal after recess gave Ghana a convincing victory.

Head coach of the Princesses, Yussif Basigi commended the team for their “fighting spirit”.

“The girls did very well after minutes after conceding. I think it was a good fighting spirit of the team.”

“Our opponents came with a tactical plan. They were supposed to attack us and I think it paid off for them in the early minute, as early as 5th minute. We also had to map up our tactical plan against them because we never saw them play before.”

He also cited a downpour as a challenge in the game. According to him, the weather conditions favoured the home side.

“The rain worried us a bit so we could not find our rhythm together till such a time when we had to take our time and put our pieces together.”
