Biden Officially Files To Contest For Reelection
President Joe Biden filed for reelection Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission.
Documents signed August 30 show a filing for ‘Biden for President,’ which is designated as a principal campaign committee for the office of president.
Candidates listed on the filing include Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
This is the strongest indication yet that Biden plans to run for a second term, despite some Democrats voicing concerns over his low poll numbers.
Last week, however, a Gallup survey put him at 44 percent approval – his highest all year
In recent weeks he has made gains by signing the Inflation Reduction Act, announcing a student loan forgiveness plan and taking out al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri.
The Biden campaign started the filing process with the FEC on Friday the records show, a day after the poll’s release.
Biden will be 81 years old – almost 82 – on November 5, 2024, the date of the next presidential election.
He beat former President Donald Trump to become the oldest person ever elected to the office when he beat Trump in November 2020, at age 78.
