Bernard Ahiafor Leads Parliament’s Appointments Committee

Parliament has constituted the Appointments Committee with the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South Constituency, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor as the Chairman.

In Parliament on January 8, 2025, the Majority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, presented a report of the Select Committee on the constitution of the Appointments, Business Committee and the Recomposition of the Committee of Selection.

“The committee respectfully recommends to the House to adopt this report and approve the membership of the Appointment and Business Committee as composed and recomposition of the committees of selection based on the ratio of 183 to 88. Mister Speaker, I shall submit,” he said.

The Appointments Committee also include Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah as Vice Chairperson, Hon. Alexander K. Afenyo-Markin as Ranking Member and Hon. Patricia Appiagyei as Deputy Ranking Member.

Other members of the Committee are Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Hon Shaibu Maham, Alhassan Umar, Frank Annoh Dompreh and Patrick Yaw Boamah.

The Appointments Committee is responsible for scrutinising and recommending to Parliament the approval or otherwise of individuals nominated by the President for roles such as Ministers of State, their Deputies, and other significant positions as outlined in the Constitution and relevant legislation.

Their task will therefore focus on critical appointments by President John Dramani Mahama as he has assumed office.
