Bawku Mediation: Asantehene Warns Cletus Avoka Against Provoking Tensions

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has reasoned with former Member of Parliament for Zebilla Constituency, Cletus Avoka, about the criticality of the current state of the Bawku Conflict resolution.

Otumfuo while addressing recent unsavoury comment by the lawyer who represented the Kusasis, condemned it as undesirable.

His Majesty noted that the issue is now at reconciliation stage and the capacity of such commentaries to incense the other faction.

“He happened to make some public pronouncements. It is not right. It is a dicey situation and we are all trying to make amends and get people to move together as brothers and sisters,” Otumfuo said after presenting the mediation report to the Jubilee House on December 16, 2025.

“It looks like he is making pronouncements which won’t bring peace we want. If he is not here, I will invite him and tell him. We’ve gotten to reconciliation stage where we need to find peace.”

Otumfuo stated that the law is on the side of Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka, adding that, “You don’t make pronouncements on radio that will incense the other side. Where we have reached is more like reconciliation. The Nayiri accepts and we have to get them together.”

Otumfuo while highlighting intermarriage between the Kusasis and Mamprusis called for cool heads.

“They intermarry. My son Mahama Ayariga was born by a Kusasi and Mamprusi so how can they fight.”
