Bawku Curfew Revised as Asantehene Mediation Yields

The Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has revised the curfew on Bawku Municipality and its environs from 12 hours to eight hours.

It comes as the ongoing mediation process by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, yields peace and calm in the town.

It will be recalled that the Minister imposed a 12-hour curfew two months ago following a renewal of tensions among the feuding factions with dozens of people including security personnel being killed.

A statement issued by the Minister on June 6, 2025, announced a revision of the restriction from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am immediately.

He also maintained the total ban on carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons by all persons in the Bawku Municipality.

“Their environs from and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.”

He further urged the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.
