Bawku Conflict: Three SHSs Temporarily Closed Down- GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the closure of three Senior High Schools (SHSs) affected by the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict.
The affected schools include Bawku SHS, Nalerigu SHS, and Zuarung SHS.
The measure is a temporary one to ensure the safety of life and property, according to the Service.
This is in response to confirmed reports of gun attacks in the three schools, resulting in the tragic loss of student lives, injuries, and significant damage to school property between 20th and 26th July 2025.
This, it said, had severely disrupted academic activities and caused deep distress among students, families, and school staff.
“The GES condemns in no uncertain terms these acts of violence.”
Meanwhile, it conveyed sympathies to the bereaved families and affected school communities.
“We stand with them in this difficult moment and assure them of our full support.”
Within the closure period, the GES said it will be exploring all viable learning avenues to ensure continuity of lessons for SHS 1 and 2 students while taking urgent steps to ensure that the SHS 3 students are able to sit for the upcoming WASSCE under safe and fair conditions.
