Bawku and Binduri Return to 12-Hour Curfew

The Ministry of Interior has imposed a 12-hour curfew on the Bawku and Binduri townships in the Upper East Region.

The sector Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, said the decision followed advice from the Upper East Regional Security Council and Executive Instrument.

Effective July 15, they will be under curfew from đťź”:00 pm to 6:00 am, the Minister noted in separate statements.

He further reiterated the ban on carrying firearms in these two towns.

He added, “Government urges Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.”

It comes after the resurgence of violence in Bawku, leading to the killing of some military officers and the destruction of a statue of a traditional leader.
