Ban Forex Bureaus; Hassan Ayariga To Gov’t
The Founder of the All People’s Party (APP), Hassan Ayariga has called on the Akufo-Addo-led government to institute a ban on forex bureaus in the country.
His call is in the wake of the depreciation of the cedi against the dollar and other major foreign currencies.
Ayariga believes that taking that bold step will help take the country out of that crisis.
He also wants the government to ban all transactions in foreign currencies in the country.
“Look at our cedi, look at our dollar. Why do we have to trade in dollars if we are not a dollar nation? Why do we have to buy properties in dollars if we are not a dollar nation? Why do we have forex bureaus operating and dictating to the Bank of Ghana how much the dollar should be sold?”
He intimated that “the price of the dollar doesn’t come from the Bank of Ghana. The forex bureau guy wakes up and says today I want the dollar to be sold at GHc10 and everybody adapts it. What is the government doing about all that?”
“You cannot allow citizens to dictate to you how to manage your economy. I think we should scrap all dollar accounts in Ghana, no trading in dollars, no transaction in dollars, no contract award in dollars, and nothing in foreign currency. The government should ban and close forex accounts in Ghana”, he asserted.
