Bagre Dam Spillage Starts Today
Excess water in the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso will be spilled today, August 19, 2024, according to a statement issued by the Water Resource Commission of Ghana.
The Commission received correspondence from SONABEL, the power utility company of Burkina Faso to that effect last week.
As of Friday, August 16, 2024, the dam had a water level of 232.82m and rising. The rise in water level, it said, began in August 2 and thereby the need for a spillage.
The Commission anticipates the spillage may cause flooding to the White Volta as has been witnessed in times past.
It has therefore advised persons occupying its banks to temporarily relocate.
“The spillage of water may cause the White Volta River to overflow its banks and likely occupy its normal flood plains. Residents along the banks of the White Volta River are accordingly advised to take precautionary measures to avoid being adversely affected.”
