Baba Yara Among Five Stadia with Safety and Security Concerns

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the home ground of Asante Kotoko SC, has been flagged among five stadia as unapproved match venues for the Ghana Premier League.

The venues have safety and security concerns, according to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

This follows an inspection by the Club Licensing Department of the GFA as part of the Enhanced Safety and SECURITY Protocols 2025.

The Stadium in the Ashanti Region has issues with its safe zone, the GFA said in a statement.

Kotoko has until its next official match to fix it, it directed.

The University of Ghana Stadium was also flagged for issues with its safe zone, also requiring attention before the next official match.

Meanwhile, the remaining three stadia-Berekum City Park, Wenchi Town Park and AAK II Sports Arena are unapproved for safety and technical reasons, the FA noted, adding that they require repair and renovations.

These stadia will be re-inspected on March 9.

Approval
The GFA also noted that at the end of the inspections, five Match Venues were confirmed and fully approved for the ongoing league.

They include the TNA Stadium, Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Dun’s Park Bibiani, Nsekyire Sports Arena and the Kpando Sports Stadium.

Meanwhile, Nii Adjei Kraku II Park, Tuba Astro Turf, Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park, and Nana Agyemang Badu were granted conditional approval pending the fixing of minimal defects and general cleaning.

Inspection
According to the FA, the inspection forms part of the road map for the resumption of the league and was conducted with reference to the GFA Stadium Directives and the Infrastructure Criteria as enshrined in the Enhanced Safety and Security Protocols 2025.

It was therefore limited to technical and Security aspects of these facilities based on the minimum requirements approved for Category 3 matches.

“The areas of interest included the following; the state of the playing field, availability of Inner perimeter fencing or barrier system, minimum seating capacity, dressing rooms, presence of a Safe Zone Area, the external walling and the safe entry and exit points.”
