Baba Jamal Sworn In as MP for Ayawaso East Constituency

The National Democratic Congress candidate in the Ayawaso East Constituency by-election has been sworn into office following his victory.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, administered the oath of office to him on the floor of the House on March 10, 2026.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker gave the newly sworn-in MP copies of the Constitution and Standing Orders as basic tools to aid his practice as a law maker.

The leader of the House used the opportunity to admonish him to uphold the interests of his constituents.

He announced his intention to hold him accountable for his promise to serve and represent the constituency selflessly.

“During your campaign, you promised the people of Ayawaso East that you wanted to serve them as a Member of Parliament, and by doing so, serve Ghana. You don’t want to serve Ghana as a High Commissioner in Nigeria,” the Speaker said.

“I took note of those statements, and I am going to hold you, as my son, accountable to the good people of Ayawaso East. Serving them, you must. So I will focus on you on this floor to see how you perform in serving them,” he added.

Baba Jamal was, until recently, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria.
