B/R: Eight Police Officers Injured In Chieftaincy Violence In Sampa

Eight police officers have sustained various degrees of injuries after being caught up in a crossfire between feuding factions in the Sampa Chieftaincy conflict on Sunday.

According to a statement by the Ghana Police Service, the officers were part of a team deployed to the scene and to escort a Ghana National Fire Service tender and an ambulance, which was conveying a pregnant woman to a hospital.

“Some officers sustained gunshot injuries, and the service vehicle with registration number GP 686 veered into a ditch during the crossfire.”

The injured officers were rushed to the Sampa Government Hospital for medical attention, where seven of them were treated and discharged.

One other officer, who sustained a head injury, has been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further treatment.

Meanwhile, the police say calm has been restored in the town with the enhancement of patrols.

“The Bono Regional Police Command has restored calm at Sampa.”
