August 6 Helicopter Crash: GAF Has No Realtime Tracking System For Flights- Report

A report by an investigative team has revealed that Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) aircraft are not equipped with systems that allow real-time monitoring or tracking of flights.

According to Aircraft Accident Investigator Captain Paul Forjoe, there is literally no real-time tracking of aircraft.

“There was no flight data monitoring. Flight monitor and tracking of aircraft, we realised it was also not there. There is no secondary surveillance radar, no automatic dependent surveillance broadcast or any other real-time tracking of aircraft.”

This formed part of the findings established in the probe of the August 6 helicopter crash that claimed eight lives.

A GAF helicopter crashed on August 6, 2025, in Adansi Akrofrom in the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator.

It also claimed the lives of Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General, NADMO, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manden Twum-Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
