Atwima Kwanwomahene Commissions 4-Unit Classroom Block for Kwanwoma D/A Basic School

Nana Amponsah Kwaah IV, the Atwima Kwanwomahene, has commissioned a 4-unit classroom block for Kwanwoma D/A Basic School on September 26, 2024.

The ceremony was graced by notable attendees, including Mr. Mahdi Kwabena Amponsah, the Guest of Honour and main financier of the project; Kwanwomahemaa Nana Ampoma Fosuaa Atwima; Amakomhene Nana Adu Mensah Asare; Hon. Prince Kofi Karikari, District Chief Executive for Atwima Kwanwoma; Hon. Kofi Amankwah Manu, Member of Parliament for the area; Hon. Seth Akwasi Agyapong; and representatives from the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation.

During the event, Hon. Kofi Amankwah Manu underscored the importance of investing in education to enhance the learning environment for students. He highlighted his previous contributions to the school, which included roofing sheets and cement to improve its facilities.

On this occasion, he donated 60 pieces of furniture, comprising chairs and tables. He contributed an additional GH¢5,000 to the school and GH¢10,000 for an upcoming computer lab project.

The MP highlighted the challenges of government funding allocations, which are based on population figures.

He noted, “Money is a problem here because when you look at the district with about 250 people and it is still a district, it is a problem. It is a very big problem because money from the government is allocated based on the number of people in the district or community.

“So, if you have a number of about 250, then the money given becomes woefully inadequate. Therefore, we have to take the steps to go up the ladder to municipal status so that we can have a bigger purse.”

Reflecting on his 32 years of teaching experience, Amakomhene expressed joy about the new facility, noting it would ensure classes could be conducted in a conducive environment, regardless of weather conditions.

He urged the community to maintain the building, cautioning against neglect, which he described as a common issue in Ghana.

Also, the Headteacher of Kwanwoma D/A Basic School, Nakpenaah Ignatius expressed gratitude for the new classrooms but appealed for further assistance to complete an additional classroom block currently under construction.

“We are grateful, and in our gratitude, my students, my teachers, and I still ask for more because even with this structure, the classrooms are still not enough. So, we are appealing to our MP, the DCE, and anyone here who can help us in any way to complete the unfinished classroom at the back, which would be the icing on the cake.”

He further proposed that the school be transformed into a model institution, equipped with all the necessary facilities to enhance education in the district. He assured everyone that he would work alongside the teachers and students to maintain and care for the building.

Mr. Mahdi Kwabena Amponsah, an entrepreneur from the United States, reflected on the community’s spirit, stating, “We are not waiting for some superman; it’s on us. Education brings out the best in us.”

He affirmed his dedication to supporting the community’s growth and expressed appreciation for the warmth and hospitality he has experienced.

Nana Amponsah Kwaah IV concluded the event by reiterating his hope for the district’s elevation to municipal status, calling on community members to collaborate on developmental initiatives.

“I thank each and every person for coming. It has been my hallmark and my dream to make Atwima Kwanwoma stand out as one of the best communities. We need development; if you and I do not come together to ensure that developmental projects can be accomplished, then what else are we talking about? Let us all rise and work together to ensure that such projects can become a reality.”
