Atta Mills Family Angry Over Renovation Of Former Prez Tomb, Gets Anyidoho To React
The family of the late former President John Evans Atta Mills has expressed dissatisfaction with the renovation done on the tomb of the former President at the Asomdwee Park without their consent.
The family is sceptical that the remains of Atta Mills remain in the grave after the renovation.
Addressing the press, Samuel Atta Mills, the former president’s younger brother called out the Coastal Development Authority and the Atta Mills Institute, an NGO headed by Samuel Koku Anyidoho, a former aide to Atta Mills and an advocate for the renovation of the Asomdwee Park.
He said, “Apparently, a group calling itself Atta Mills Institute that the family does not recognise and Coastal Development Authority have gone to break this grave of President John Evans Atta Mills, they have removed the tomb…claiming they are rebuilding it.
“My questions are…we have traditions…why will you go and touch somebody’s grave without informing the family? Now that you’ve gone to touch it, is the body still in that grave? What did you put in that grave? What kind of rituals did you perform over there? Why will you go and touch the grave without informing us? Who has the body now?… Coastal Development Authority under whose authority did you do this? Why do you always want the family to go through grief every time?… Why will the government allow this to happen?”
Reacting to this, Koku Anyidoho explained that “a dirty black cardboard” that “shamefully”covered the tomb of Atta Mills was removed and replaced with granite stones.
In a tweet, he said, “Is it a crime to remove the dirty black cardboard that used to shamefully cover the grave of President Atta-Mills, and replace it with, granite stones?”.
He also insinuated that Samuel Atta Mills is playing politics with the whole issue.
“I will NOT use Asomdwee Park for partisan politics. It is a big shame that Sammy Atta-Mills has neglected the burial place of his brother, and is using the work the State is doing for dirty politics – in support of John Dramani Mahama”.
