Asomah Banda Mosque Will Not Be Demolished – Railway Authority
The Ghana Railway Development Authority has dispelled reports that it would dismantle a Mosque at the Airport Residential Area in the Greater Accra Region.
It was reported that the Alhaji Asoma Banda mosque together with other landmarks sitting in the Authority’s right of way had been earmarked for demolition.
In reaction to the news, the Authority said measures are underway to eject encroachers, however, it noted that the mosque was not on the list for demolition.
“The Authority has pressed into service plans to eject illegal occupants along the Railway right of way at Roman Ridge, including the Nyaho Clinic stretch and Alhaji Asoma Banda’s Mosque area. In this regard, extensive engagements and consultations are underway to ensure a comprehensive approach that avoids surprises to the affected parties.
“Contrary to the publications, the Alhaji Asoma Banda’s Mosque is not earmarked for demolition. The Authority has engaged with the leadership of the mosque, assuring them that there is no plan to demolish the mosque.”
It also disclosed that it has issued to the mosque an invoice of their accrued ground rent for payment.
“We urge the public to take note of this clarification and disregard any misinformation suggesting otherwise,” it added.
