Ashanti Region Will Get a Fair Share of National Cake- Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has given assurances of a fair share of the national cake for the Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Acknowledging the region’s political alliance, he indicated that his overwhelming victory in the December 2024 Presidential Election could not have been possible without the contribution from the Region.
As such he affirmed his commitment to reward the Region for its confidence reposed in him.
Speaking at the first Akwasidae Festival of the year on January 19, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, he said the needed development will be undertaken in the region.
“Many might not consider this the stronghold of my party but in this election, I believe that the confidence and the votes that Ashanti Region gave us contributed to the overwhelming victory that I scored. And so I can assure you that you can count on me and that when we are sharing the national cake, I will make sure Ashanti Region gets its fair share.”
His Excellency is willing to give the Ashanti Region the development it deserves as the second capital of the country.
“The Ashanti Region is the second most populous region in the whole of Ghana and Kumasi is the second largest city and as you rightly noted, the second city is equipped and developed as the first city because in the event of crisis or evasion of war, the government must be able to retreat to another city where it can function in order to safeguard the country.
“So I agree with you that the development of Kumasi as the second largest city is something we must take seriously and I pledge that I’m going with you so that we can achieve this.”
President Mahama joined the Akwasidae Festival held at the Dwabrem grounds of the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
He was accompanied by government officials and the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Among them were NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, Frank Amoakohene, NDC Ashanti Regional Chairman, Augustus Nana Akwasi Andrews, Former Attorney-General, Betty Mould Iddrisu and the brother of the President, Ibrahim Mahama.
