Asanteman Mourns: Dr Owusu Afriyie, UMB, Methodist Church, Others Commiserate With Asantehene

Individuals and groups alike have expressed solidarity with the Asante Kingdom as it mourns the passing of its Queen, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, on September 4, 2025, received messages of condolence and donations at the Manhyia Palace.

The donation of drinks, bottles of water, cash and other essentials was announced as their support to the Palace for preparations towards the burial rites of the late Queen set to take place from September 15 to 18.


Traditional authorities, including Nana Kakari Apau II, Asansohene, Nana Amankwa Kodom II, Adumasahene and Nana Konadu Yiadom Kumanin IV, Konahene, stood before the Asantehene in their capacity as siblings, giving Ghc100,000 as their widows’ mite.

Clergy
Clergy representing various denominations were also present to offer spiritual and material support.

Among them were the Methodist Church of Ghana, the Pentecost Church of Ghana and the Ashanti Central Conference of SDA.


As each took turns to stand before His Majesty, prayers were made for strength, protection and longevity for the Asantehene, who stands as the chief mourner.

Individuals
Former Agriculture Minister Dr Owusu Afriyie, former Aputuogya Assemblyman Hon Joseph Asante, politician Lawyer Ralph Kwame Agyapong and acupressure specialist Mr Patrick Ofei Amanor came in their individual capacities to mourn with the King.


Each announced either cash or drink donations or both to support the Palace.

Corporate
The Corporate sector was also duly represented.

Delegations from the Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), Ashanti Regional Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Montals Engineering, Fan Milk Company, K Adu Gas Oven and Denzel Logistics joined to express their sympathies.


As Montals Engineering donated cylinders, cooking burners, dustbins and barbecue grills to the Palace, FanMilk Company announced donations of 180 packs of its products, while Denzel Logistics gave 100 packs of Tonino Lamborghini Energy Drink.

Also present were a coalition of Nwomkro groups with brand-name Asanteman Nwomkro, who offered their condolences through a uniquely crafted song they performed before His Majesty.
