Asantehene Takes Leave in February

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has announced plans to undertake a leave of absence in February.
The Asantehene made this known to Nananom at the first Asanteman Council meeting on January 19, 2026.
Otumfuo stated that he would immediately take a break from all Council activities and would be absent for the entire second month.
His Majesty, therefore, urged Nananom to offer him the needed room to rest.
While delegating Kumasi to Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, Bantamahene, Asanteman was committed into the care of Nana Dwamena Akenten II, Offinsohene.
You will be in charge after we celebrate the Akwasidae Festival.
The leave will begin in the first week of February.
Otumfuo remarked that all lingering cases will be looked into after he returns to official duties.
In that case, the Asantehene encouraged Nananom with cases pending to exercise restraint until the cases are resolved.
“I assure you of an amicable resolution once I get back.”
In addition, Otumfuo urged Nananom not to fall for ploys of extortion.
“Anyone who promises to help expedite the resolution of your case or get you a favourable verdict is a liar. Don’t fall for that. And if you brought gifts to me during the festive season, don’t think that will influence me to deliver a verdict in your favour. We will stand by the truth.”
